I dropped by the set of the new ufo movie being shot down at Casman drugstore right on Quezon Ave near Timog. Every person on the crew was fussing around that small old drugstore we used to frequent when we were kids. I followed the action of guys carrying a smoking tin can of charcoal and baby oil, they seemed to be smoking the general area where most of the crew and actors were at! It was explained to me that the smoke in the daytime made the scene have more depth. Okay, gotta jot that one down, observed and committed to this blog. I entered the botika during a take and it was sssmmooooking inside so i held my breath but I also paid attention to the monitor. How these actors, so young and goodlooking, manage not to flinch, cover their noses or sneeze during the take, I wonder.
The scene had Jason Abalos in it, the male lead, and in the background of Jason Abalos at the botika counter was Ping Medina, still as charismatic as when he agreed to act in our first indie movie in 2005. Seems like such a long time, if you think about another one of our leads then Aya Lee, who either is about to give birth this month to her firstborn or has already given birth!
Well, we are proud and wish these special actors the best in their careers. And more careers at that! Ping has forayed into the band scene with Ebro and Aya has motherhood to add to her acting!
I can’t tell you much about the shoot, we’d all have to see the rest of it in July at Cinemalaya, and frankly, that was all I saw before I left the set.
